Inaugural UNSW WIE Charity Gala 2014
On the 30th of October, UNSW WIE hosted our inaugural Charity Gala, at the Star Room, Darling Harbour. On the night, there were inspirational talks from our chosen charity, One Girl, and the UNSW Faculty of Engineering, with the overall theme of the night being Inspiring Change. Guests enjoyed a three-course meal, an amazing view of the Sydney Harbour, and the opportunity to participate in a charity raffle on the night, with all proceeds going to One Girl.
One Girl is an exceptional non-profit organisation that gives women and girls access to education. They “want to see a world where women and girls are creating and leading change in their communities”, values which resonate with our society’s aims. We would like to sincerely thank Chantelle Baxter, co-founder of One Girl for sharing with us her unique personal stories and enlightening presentation. You have inspired us all to create change in our own societies.

The night would have not been such a great success without the continual support of our two primary sponsors – UNSW Faculty of Engineering and the Minerals Tertiary Education Council (MTEC). We would like to thank in particular, Alex Bannigan and Vicki Chen, from the Faculty of Engineering, for their insightful presentations, as well as James Seaford, from MTEC, for his continual support and correspondence during UNSW WIE’s first year.
We are proud to announce that our charity raffle raised $1,588.46 for One Girl! We would like to thank Simone Perele Lingerie for generously providing the raffle prizes, and for providing complimentary vouchers to all attendees on the night. Congratulations again to our lucky winners !Finally, we would like to sincerely thank all our attendees on the night. Without your generous support, we would not have been able to provide such a wonderful, inspirational night!
